GEO PSI Australian Partner Qteq Completes Successful Wireless EMT Field Trial
Australia based georesources technology company Qteq Pty Ltd announced this week that it has successfully completed a field trial of our next-generation wireless downhole pressure monitoring system in a coal seam gas (CSG) production well. This success is the first to emerge under our exclusive technical and commercial partnership announced a month ago between GEO PSI and Qteq, a leading provider of georesource technologies.
Qteq has already established itself as a global leader for the installation of subsurface pressure monitoring systems, with over 6,000 systems installed in CSG wells to help minimize the frequency of CSG well work-overs and optimize gas production. Many of these systems are running our Gauges and Downhole Instrumentation Cable which extends from the wellhead to the downhole sensor to power the device and to transmit data to surface. Our new wireless system, however, is battery powered and employs electro-magnetic telemetry to transmit pressure data from the downhole sensor to a surface receiver.
“The successful outcome of the field trial stems directly from both companies’ deep understanding of wireless telemetry techniques and electromagnetic (EM) propagation theory in subsurface environments, and expertise in sensor and telemetry technologies…”
– Qteq Chief Innovation Officer, Quentin Morgan
Quentin Morgan also added that “Prior to the trial a significant amount of time was spent leveraging this theoretical knowledge to design an EM bottom hole assembly that optimized the transmission of a wireless EM signal in cased hole CSG wells.”
“The elimination of armoured instrument cable and associated accessories will improve overall system reliability and enable our clients to complete CSG wells more quickly, and more safely”
– Qteq’s Chief Operating Officer, Ewan Meldrum
He also added “The new wireless subsurface pressure monitoring solution has huge operability benefits for our CSG clients and enables them to acquire downhole pressure measurements in CSG wells that are to be re-completed under surface pressure…”
GEO PSI’s very own Asia Pacific Business Development Manager, Nick Nazarovs has worked closely with Qteq over the last several years to grow the partnership into what it is today.
“The fast track development and adaption of this already successful EM technology platform has shown the collaborative engineering power that both companies bring to the partnership. The current EM technology staircase illustrates our ability and commitment to quickly move from the MKI technology platforms through to versions MKII, MKIII and MKIV…“
– GEO PSI Asia Pacific Business Development Manager, Nick Nazarovs
“Our highly successful EM trial has been supported strongly by a major CSG operator in Queensland. We are thankful for this support and look forward to further successful near-term EM developments.”
Moving Forward
This highly successful EM trial has been strongly supported by a major CSG operator in Queensland. On the heels of this success we look forward to further serving the Australian market with our latest, most innovative technologies. We also look forward to leveraging the success of our new Wireless EM tool in Australian CSG to bring this technology to other international markets.
We are working hard to bring this new technology to full scale production, and we encourage anyone interested in our Wireless EM tools to contact us. In the coming weeks and months look forward to hearing more from us on the success of new Wireless Em tools.
